Unsubscribing is a part of the business we're in. It's a good thing, too. We should focus our time and resources on the people who love what we do or sell. So, it's in our best interest to make unsubscribing as simple as possible.

That's why you might want to add an easy-to-find custom Unsubscribe link to your campaign templates and automations. Here's how.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you know how to use the tinyAlbert editor and customize messages.

Getting started

I'll show you how to place an Unsubscribe link at the top of a campaign template. You can add the link anywhere on a template or automation.

Opening a campaign template

To open a campaign template in the editor:

  1. Locate a campaign template scheduled to be sent in the future.

  2. Switch off the toggle to deactivate the template.

  3. Click the three-dot icon and select Edit. A new page displays.

  4. Click Next. The template displays on the editor canvas.

Opening an automation

To open an automation in the editor:

  1. Locate an automation.

  2. Switch off the toggle to deactivate the message.

  3. Click the three-dot icon and select Edit. A new page displays.

  4. Click Next. The automation displays on the editor canvas.

After editing a template or automation, be sure to switch on the toggle and activate the message.

Editing a message

Follow these steps to add a custom Unsubscribe link. The steps work for campaign templates and automations.

Go to the editor. Expand the Structures folder in the side panel. Drag a structure to the canvas.

Hover the empty structure and click the Text icon.

Click the block and enter text for the link. I'll type Unsubscribe and use the toolbar to add formatting (e.g. centre the text) and styling (e.g. change the typeface and font size).

Adding a link

Now, add a hyperlink that unsubscribes the contact.

  1. Highlight the text in the structure.

  2. Click the Change Link icon in the toolbar.

Go to the side panel and locate the Link block.

  1. Click the drop-down menu and select Other.

  2. Write or paste this exact text into the empty field (include the square brackets, all caps, and underscore): [UNSUBSCRIBE_LINK]

  3. Click the Save and select Save & Activate button.

Testing the link

Open a campaign template or automation in Preview mode and click the Send test link. Enter a test email in the popup window and send the message.

Open the message in the test email account and click the Unsubscribe link. A new browser tab opens and confirms the action.

That's it.

Now you know how to add a custom Unsubscribe link to a campaign template or automation.
